Privacy policy

Last updated 30 July 2026 · The Debrief is currently in beta
Beta notice The Debrief is under active development and testing. Features, safeguards, and this policy itself may change as the product matures. If something here is unclear or you have concerns about how your information is handled, please get in touch before using the platform with real client material.

The Debrief is operated by Paul King Consulting (ABN 85802729431). This policy explains what information the platform collects, how it's used, and where it's processed — written in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

What we collect

De-identification is your responsibility

Please don't include identifying details about real clients. Reflective Practice and Differential include an automatic check that screens for obvious identifiers before saving — but it's a safety net, not a guarantee. Please write about real client work the way you would in any reflective journal: no names, no specific workplaces, no combinations of details that could identify someone. Role-play sessions involve a simulated client and don't need de-identification.

How AI is used, and where

The Debrief uses Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, to power the simulated role-play client, supervisor feedback, reflection structuring, the automatic identifier check, and Differential's modality comparisons.

Currently, this processing happens on servers located in the United States. This applies to fictional role-play content as well as reflections and case notes about real (de-identified) client work. We're working towards moving processing of real client-adjacent content to Australian-hosted infrastructure, to keep that information within Australia. Until that work is complete, be aware that text you submit — including de-identified reflections and case notes — is sent to and processed by Anthropic's US-based systems.

Anthropic does not use content submitted through this kind of API access to train their models.

Where your data is stored

Account and content data is stored using Supabase, a database hosting provider. Access to your data is restricted at the database level so that only your own account can read or write your reflections, sessions, and cases — this is enforced by the database itself, not just the application.

How we handle errors

If something goes wrong in the app, a record is kept of what broke, where, and when — so it can be fixed. This error record never includes the content of your reflections, case notes, or any form field contents.

Who else sees your information

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data. Get in touch using the details below and we'll action it as soon as we can.

Not a crisis service

The Debrief is a training and reflective-practice tool for counselling students and practitioners. It is not a mental health service and the simulated role-play client is not a real person. If you or someone you're supporting is in crisis, please contact Lifeline (13 11 14) or Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636).

Who this platform is for

The Debrief is intended for adult counselling students and practitioners. It is not designed for or directed at children.

Questions or complaints

If you have a question or concern about how your information is handled, contact us first at paul.de.king@gmail.com. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

This policy was prepared with AI assistance as a starting draft for a platform still in beta testing. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Before relying on it for formal compliance purposes — particularly once real client data or paid subscriptions are involved — it's worth having it checked by someone qualified in Australian privacy law.
